Richfield Plumbing & Heating was established on April 1st, 1979 by Vern and Linda Shoemaker. This was no April fools joke, but actually a well thought out lifelong plan that would change their lives forever. It all started when Vern started plumbing and working with sheet metal in 1966 in Stettler AB. Vern quickly became a leader in his field by being awarded the top marks in Alberta and running jobs as a second year (which he points out to all new apprentices). Vern almost became partners in that company but decided to move to Edmonton in 1971 for personal reasons. Between 1971 and 1979, Vern worked with two companies and became one of the top employees at both but decided to venture off and become an owner of his own company in 1979.
Vern started plumbing in 1966 with Milner plumbing in settler Alberta where he learned his grassroots from Fred Milner. Then moved to Edmonton in 1971 where he worked with Bryant Plumbing for four years then worked with Dual Plumbing until he founded Richfield in 1979. Vern has been the sole inspiration behind Richfield Plumbing and has built a reputation of demanding the highest of standards.
For 6 years, Richfield was able to service its customers effectively and efficiently from the Strathcona Business Park location; however, with steady and consistent growth, a larger warehouse and office was required. Richfield moved to their current location at 8740 51 Avenue in April of 2016, gaining a GeneraI Manager Office, an Estimating and Project Manager Office and a large and welcoming Reception area. The warehouse space increased from a l000 sq. ft. warehouse with a 400 sq. ft. mezzanine to a spacious 3,300 sq. ft. facility! Everyone is setting in nicely. Although Richfield has grown in size, we still pride ourselves in offering individualized service and a high quality product.
